New Beginnings Nerves
Hi Babe,
Thank you for your letter and congrats on your new opportunity!
I can imagine that the redundancy was a stressful experience for you but to have secured a new role that is also career progression shows that your company believes in your ability to do the job and deliver. Please pause to celebrate and allow that to sink in.
In these unprecedented times we have no blueprint or past experience to call upon. Only you know what you have faced, overcome and your personal history of rising to your challenges. You mention feeling terrified and worried about letting yourself and others down. This is an expectation that you are putting on yourself without experiencing your first day yet. Imagine instead if you allowed yourself to prepare with excitement and visualised enjoying every aspect of your new role! Welcome the challenges so that you can experience a sense of achievement and pride as a result of grasping something new.
Furlough has been a moment to reset but it has been equally unnerving. That said, it most definitely has slowed us down — this isn’t a bad thing. Perhaps it will allow you to pace yourself and not get caught up in the false urgency of day to day life, you can now embrace your journey in your new chapter. Writing down all the things you are looking forward to and all the things you miss about your work life before the pandemic can help. A vision board is a great method to help focus on your best case scenarios and a way to picture yourself thriving.
It’s natural to feel scared but remember once you step into your first day, courage is waiting for you at home time.
With love, Malee
